Can anyone tell me which Bn of the Duke of Lancaster's is our old Regiment.
The way I read it is that the King's Own Royal Border Regt was at North Luffenham and that was converted into the 3rd Bn D of L's. If that is true, does anyone know why the senior regiment has been converted into the junior battalion and will be later split up and disbanded.
I have to say, I also have sent 2 email's to RHQ asking the same question and as yet have not had a reply. _________________ Paul Livsey 23977850

Hello Paul and re your enquiry 'which battalion are we'?
My understanding is that Kings Own Border is indeed the 3rd Battlion and this is due to merge into 1st and 2nd battalions March 2007.
Seeing as Kings Own Border, Kings and QLR no longer exist anyway we cannot loose anything else. All these fine Regiments are DLR anyway, it just means that the DLR Regiment will be minus 1 DLR Battalion. |

I finally got a reply...
Dear Paul,
Thank you for your email. The reason it became the 3rd Battalion is as follows:
1. Due to the barrack moves of the three bns it was KORBR that had to hand over its bks and in effect join the other 2 bns in situ.
2. For administrative reasons with the Army & MOD IT systems it was more convenient for KORBR to become the 3rd Bn and then disband on 1 Apr 07.
3. The three Colonels met and agreed to the above. The designation of 1st and 2nd was done on the toss of the coin!

Hi Sach
Im sure that you like me and many others sat up and took notice when the Regiment was mentioned on the news. At least if we had gone to D of L's 1st Bn we could have done the same. Now we are 3rd Bn, we can do the same until next year at which point we will be disbanded and have no-one to follow at all.
I am currently a member of the Regimental Association but there is no point in being now. My intention is to get the first Regimental magazine of the D of L's and then call it a day. At least we will have this site to keep old comrades together. I used to read the Diamond Reunion site but that seems to have turned into a "slagging off" site so there is no point in that anymore. _________________ Paul Livsey 23977850
