Hi guys,

If you want to know what it is really like in the Southern States following Hurricane Katrina then have a look at some of the Weblogs below.

Katrina is one of the deadliest natural disasters to befall the United States. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected.

The following is posted on the Big Pink Cookie weblog:

http://www.bigpinkcookie.com/

I’ve seen people post on their blogs that they don’t know who to give money to; every group can use your help, but the Houston Food Bank is actually coordinating the food drive efforts right here in Houston. For every $1 that you give, they can get $25 worth of food. Right now, they need help for the victims of Katrina - and no matter where you are at, you can help. Please consider making a donation to either the Houston Food Bank or America’s Second Harvest.

Meanwhile, as I said in my previous post, I am collecting knitted or crocheted goods for the smallest victims. For right now, things such as baby bootees or small children socks are probably best; as we get more into fall, things like sweaters and blankets will be needed. I will take anything I receive to the Northwest Assistance Ministry to distribute to those in need. Leave a comment with your e-mail if you would like more details. Raid your stash, knit for the babies!

Here is a link to a News website that is covering the disaster.

http://www.wwltv.com/

This website is run by a radio station in New Orleans, Luisiana. but is providing emergency facilities out of Baton Rouge and continues to provide unsurpassed Katrina hurricane disaster coverage. Live feeds from WWL are being picked up by CBSnews.com, yahoo, Time Warner Cable, and many other cable news outlets.

And this links to the blog on the above website that is covering the extract below:

http://www.wwltv.com/local/stories/WWLBLOG.ac3fcea.html

11:55 P.M. - (AP): At one point, the Superdome evacuation was interrupted briefly when school buses rolled up so some 700 guests and employees from the Hyatt Hotel could move to the head of the evacuation line -- much to the amazement of those who had been crammed in the stinking Superdome since Sunday.

"How does this work? They (are) clean, they are dry, they get out ahead of us?" exclaimed Howard Blue, 22, who tried to get in their line. The National Guard blocked him as other guardsmen helped the well-dressed guests with their luggage.

Well Sebastian,

I don't really want to say this but I must. This event will show the US that thay are no different from the rest of the world. The big machine, broke down and the fuse blew with Bush, where was the National Guard and for that the regulars when the Poor and Disposessed needed them, never mind the otherside of the world, this mighty country was helpless when it came to their own. I hope Blair dosn't follow in his masters footprints, and to Winket hows that for Politic's.

Comrades,

I do not wish to start a flame here but feel I must comment.

I was hoping that we could have left politics out of this and focussed on the suffering of so many unfortunate people. However, I try to run a free website and forum so I am not about to start censoring stuff now.

It seems to me to be a modern trend to knock our American cousins but I was born just after the Second World War and know just how much this country owes the United States of America. Without lease lend, food and fuel rations, and a whole stack of other support we would all be speaking German and following the swastika right now.

Sure I depracate some of America's policies, sure I am appalled at some of the stuff that happened (or didn't happen) before and after Katrina, and Iraq leaves me deeply troubled, but that doesn't mean that I beleive that everything American is now a justifiable target for vilification. I don't mean that I think Chalie is guilty of that, I just think it would be sad if we as a group followed what I believe has been a growing trend of recent years. Just read some of the reports of heroism and kindness on the Katrina blogs. Try to see behind some of the sensational press coverage, and think what it would be like if a similar event took place in any of our major cities.

By all means have a go at Bush and his country's policies but let's please have a balanced debate and try to keep a modicum of respect for fellow human beings who are suffering greatly. And a word of support for our troops, their allies in Iraq, and families back home is long overdue.

Regards

Sebastian

So Charlie you didnot want to say it ?then why did you. To gain some type of pathetic points in your mindless tirade against the US. These people were just that, people that live and work and try to raise thier families in a reasonable way. People that have lost everything and are an easy target for someone with your attitude. You ask about the National Guard and the Regulars, You need to remember this was a distaster on such a scale never witnessed in recent history, you should also remember that all the first responders along with the NG, within that region also lost everything including in a number of cases thier lives. What price can you put on your remarks when you consider that for all the faults of the US government (and there are many) were not the fault of these innocent folks and in my humble opinion you should be ashamed.

As Always and with sincerity.
Stay Safe & Remarks
